This should be no surprise to any of the TFP people, but apparently it seems the COVID-19 virus is even more sensitive than most other viruses to Chlorine. This also means that if you are on a city water system you don't have to buy out Costco's entire supply of bottled water, either. Enjoy those 400 rolls of TP though! Worst case "zombie apocalypse" if you have some liquid chlorine you could even chlorinate water to kill the virus...

Figured this might be of interest to this community. But none of you are panicking, because you are smarter than that! Take a dip in the pool and sanitize your skin! :)

Short answer here is that 0.5 ppm Cl in drinking water and 1.0 ppm in pools (they recommend more in hot tubs) will kill the virus. (mg/l = ppm)

Have another read, wrote by a certain @JoyfulNoise ?
That has to be pretty new, I just went through and re-read many of the articles about a week ago... Of course well written. One thing I should add is that if you do get COVID-19 from a pool party, it's going to be from direct contact outside of the pool. That's more or less stated in Matt's document but I'll say it more directly. Staying and home and enjoying a pool rather than going out is a net positive for this outbreak, that is for sure.

But now there is proper exploitation in the forums, so hopefully more people will read this. I suspect this is going to be most useful to convince OTHER people (visitors, neighbors, etc.) that your pool doesn't add additional risk...

It has yet to be fully determine how susceptible SARS-CoV-2 to environmental degradation. It is known that beta coronavirus does not do well with increased heat and low humidity but this new variant may behave different. If it does react similarly, then the warmer weather will help limit the disease.

In the meantime, we can all focus our outrage on the real enemy of the people - Costco Management

@Arizonarob is hardest hit by this news ...

We are in S America (summer) and this seems a non event. Same with Africa. Will see if the summer - as Matt says - slays this as it does many *viri.

I dunno, but they were still handing out samples at my Costco today. Had to go there to pick up a new IMac that goes on sale tomorrow. :brickwall: (Apparently I have no idea what day it is.)
So I will investigate the sample situation next week when I go get back my $200 bucks.
Till then......
