Come on Hayward, you should be able to do a better job answering your own customers questions! This is the reason why some generic companies exist. Poor customer service.

Finally spoke with a Hayward tech.
First the good news - he says the cell can run all the way up to 8 amps before it shuts down.
Now the confusing part. He poo-pooed the OCLT as a method of assessing my pool's chlorine demand and said I needed to take the water to a pool store to have them do an 'actual' Chlorine Demand Test and then send him the results to help assess if the cell is defective.
I went to about six different pool stores to have our water tested when we first got our pool and we're struggling to get our FC levels up and none of them mentioned that such a test was available. Also some of the forum posts I've read here suggest this is not a real thing and just lingo the pool stores throw around.

To get the performance of the cell, divide the instant salinity by the actual salinity. If the ratio is less than 75%, it's time for a new cell. For example, 2,000 (instant salinity) ÷ 3,600 (measured salinity with a test kit)=56%. Check the cell and clean it if necessary. If that doesn't work, it's time for a new cell.

I did. He couldn't really, other than only pool stores can do it. It takes them one hour and it involves adding drops and waiting multiple times . . .
Tell him to understand the things he recommends before actually recommending them.
His script won't let him understand anything. He just has to be smart enough to read it.
