Good morning guys,

I think I have a bad salt cell. My salt level is 4000 ppm and 68F temp. The cell is 3 years old. I cleaned it with HF acid and still getting the message. Just checked the price for new cell, $350?! Should I invest into a better salt generator or continue with this Jandy product? I would expect the cell to last longer than 3 years. I’m also not even sure if the cell is faulty. My pool stats are in spec.

3 years running at 50% is 13,000 hours. Subtracting 25% for the winter still gets around 10,000 hours. Most cells last 6,000 - 10,000 hours.

I would say your cell is depleted.

$350 is a good price for a new 35K cell.

Ok, I was concerned that you meant hydrofluoric acid, which is incredibly dangerous.
It is :) Used to work as a chemist for a chromium plating factory. hydrofluoric acid will literally eat through skin until it hits bone. Nasty stuff.

Very informative, thank you. Nonetheless, should replace the system that’s already discontinued or continue buying the cells? If this system is know for having problems then I don’t mind changing it out altogether.

What problems have you had? A depleted cell is normal operation and not a problem.
