Aquamatic cover key switch replacement

The key switch that opens/closes my cover has failed after about 10 years. The key goes in (maybe not quiet all the way?), but will not turn left or right. Aquamatic wants a lot of money for a replacement. I was wondering what options I have. Is this the sort of thing one could spray some cleaner or lube into? Would a locksmith be able to fix this? Or do I need to get Aquamatic here to replace (this typically takes a while, I am pretty far from their facility)? Thanks, Don

Remove the front cover and have a look inside. There may be an obstruction you can remove. One time, I had a large spider colony nesting in mine. I then realized the opening for the cable was open to air and insects. I sealed it up, no problems since.
