Aquacal Heat Pump Wont Turn Off

Aquacal SQ145. 3 years old.

Heater won't turn off. I have to turn the breaker off.
The heater is kicking on and off when I adjust the temperature and producing heat.
I change the mode to off and it still runs.
I turn off my pump and it stays running.


Any ideas?

The pressure switch should shut the HP down when the pump is off.

Maybe a bad circuit board. How old is the heat pump?

Do you have automation?

3 years old. Im sorry but what does automation mean?

Jandy, Hayward and Pentair all make pool automation systems that control the various pieces of equipment. It's a box that mounts on the wall and all of the equipment connects to the box for power and control.

Has the heat pump always worked correctly from installation?

Its a Aquacal and been fine until 3 days ago. Still heats up and I hear the compressor kick on and off as I adjust the temp.
Just doesn't shut off when it shouldn't be running.

When you switch to off, it just continues to heat?

When I turn it off or put the heat lower then the pool temp it stops heating, I hear the compressor kick off, but the fan continues to run.

The fan might continue to run for a minute or two but it should turn off within a few minutes.

When it’s working correctly that’s what it did. Now it doesn’t shut off and I watched it for at least 30 minutes before I shut the breaker off.

Maybe a bad relay going to the fan or some reason that that the circuit thinks the fan needs to run or a bad circuit board.

You're not getting any errors indicated at all?

When ice starts to form on the coil, the compressor will stop operating while the fan continues to operate.
The coil will begin to warm to the surrounding air temperature. When the coil's temperature rises above 38° F, the compressor is restarted and heating resumes.
If the coil's temperature remains below 38° F, the compressor will remain off.

Does the display say "Defrosting"?

No errors at all, display looks normal.
