AquaBright, how does it age?

It is time for me to make a decision about which finish to use on a new pool I am having built. I'm learning about aquaBright online, it looks like a good choice. I feel hesitation mainly for these two reasons. One, none of the pool contractors I talk with are familiar with it. This makes me a bit nervous because it I don't know how to get meaningful information on who might be a high quality installer in my area (Orange County, CA). The second thing that gives me pause is that I haven't come across any information on how well it ages, and when it does fail (due to age) what is the mode of failure.

AquaBright comes with a 10 year warranty, which seems similar to other high quality finishes, so I'm guessing aquaBright's durability (when it is applied correctly) is on par with Hydrozzo, Pebbletec, etc.

So, here are a few questions (let's assume a high quality application):

1. What is the expected life span of well applied aquaBright?
2. When aquaBright does age out, do you have to remove the old finish? Or, can you just spray over the top of what's there?
3. If the old aquaBright has to be removed, what is the process for doing so?

The quality of the installation is dependent on the installer. We have had posts from people with bad Aquabrite installs.

The reason there are no local installers is because they have given up on the product being a good business for them.

Comments from an Aquabrite Ecofinish installer, who was in your area, at the time who got out of the business because it was too labor intensive and expensive to make money at it...

I seem to have miscommunicated. I did not intend to imply that there are no local installers familiar with the product. There's a large number of pool contractor in my area. I'm only able to be in contact with a small percentage of them. In fact, Eco Finish Coatings sent me a list of 4 installers within 50 miles of my home. I believe there are a few more just outside of this radius. What I was trying to communicate is that I haven't been able come across information about the work quality of these installers. And, since having a good result with aquaBright is so dependent on the quality of the install, I'm feeling some discomfort with the situation.

In your reference to the installer from my area that got out of the business, I am guessing that you are referring to bdavis466. In the course of doing my research, I think I have read most of bdavis466's posts in regards to aquaBrite. If I remember correctly, he stated that he sold the business because it was a side job for him and he no longer had time for it. Overall, he seemed to be impressed by aquaBright and I have seen a few posts where he recommends the product. I will go so far as to say that bdavis466's enthusiasm for aquaBrite is something that influenced me in my decision to give this finish careful consideration for my project.

ajw22, I appreciate your well intentioned reply. I think your instinct to avoid a product that has (arguably) not proven itself in the marketplace a good instinct. At the same time, I realize that it is quite difficult for new products to prove themselves in the pool market place. I attribute this to the fact that there are so many companies trying to enter with new products through "hocus pocus" marketing claims that it creates almost insurmountable skepticism. Perhaps this is how it should be. However, I'm wondering if, in this case, there is a little bit of the baby being thrown out with the bathwater. I'm trying to sus that out.

At the same time, I realize that it is quite difficult for new products to prove themselves in the pool market place.

Aquabrite has been around for quite some time and is not a new product looking to enter the market.

If it has not gotten traction by now then there is some reason beyond pool industry inertia.

I like to use my pool to swim in and be as trouble free as possible. It is not an area I am interested in helping a product that is not easily removable unless it has financial benefits to me.
