So… wondering if anyone has had this happen and what’s the right decision. Today was the long awaited and anticipated day of pebble sheen being applied. We decided on ocean blue but I was not home and didn’t realize until later that they actually applied blue surf. So disappointing! I am contemplating leaving it to prevent further delays but don’t want to regret the color for the next 30 years considering I had been looking forward to the darker blue water.. not sure what it entails to chip out the wrong color to replace the correct one. Wondering if anyone has any experience with this and if we would be better off just keeping the current color? The pb is apologetic and planning to redo it in the correct color, just hate for this to cost everyone time and money.. thank you!

I feel for you as I know how much time and effort you put into picking YOUR color. It is not too bad as Blue Surf is one of the top colors picked for a BLUE color.
Now it can be fixed. The number one thing, if you do decide to change it, is They MUST remove ALL of the old plaster. They should use a flat chisel to do so. NOT the pointy one. They are also going to have to remove/replace the waterline tile as we all know they are going to chip the current tile no matter how careful they are.
Another idea is for them to give you some money back for their mistake. We can help you come up with a ballpark fair price for it.
Sleep on it and do a search for Blue Surf and see what you think. I will tell you it is MY top pick if I were doing an inground pool so....

Builder has to make it right. That either means they give you money back for the screwup OR they take out the wrong the plaster and redo it with the right one.
Are you sure it’s Blue Surf? Do you have pictures of the bag mixes they used showing the wrong product?

yes, so much deliberation went into choosing the color. And yes, we are positive it’s blue surf, we saw the bags and confirmed it with pb. They agreed it was a mix up.. what a mess! And on top, they stopped the application once they realized it was the wrong color so there are bare spots.. so it’s just a mess!

Yes, I didn’t realize this until after further inspection. So I guess we just wait…
+1. Having it not complete makes the decision SO much easier. It is what it is now.
Remeber my color pep talk earlier ? I see both of those shades of blue each day, and 100 others. Lol. If it was finished, which it isn't, i would take a small refund and happily live with it.
Depending on where I stand, I can get multiple blues in the same pic. If I wait a few hours they will both be different colors later.

It amazes me that "professionals" can make such simple, avoidable, and costly mistakes. Before commencing work, you would think they would take 30 seconds to confirm the type/color of plaster with the PB and owner and crosscheck that with the product label.
It's like a surgeon that amputates the wrong limb or a pilot that shuts off the wrong engine. These type of mistakes should never happen, but they do.
I have Blue Surf and really like it. It's a shame they didn't complete the job properly. I would have kept the plaster as installed and negotiated a sizable credit for the mistake.
I don't think you have any choice at this point.
There was a pool a ways back that was a MAJOR mess up. In fact it involved 2 pools but only one was on TFP. The TFP got a very upgraded plaster with major add-ons. WELL he came home to find a plain, white plaster on his pool.....................say what??? It was NOTHING like he had asked and paid for. Turns out the installers got 2 pools mixed up.......................so the other pool got the major upgrade at no cost to them!! The installers had to chip out the white plaster and replace with the proper plaster and add-ons. It all worked out in the end.

Not sure if I can post this question here or if I need to make a new post. I need some advice! So they started chipping off the wrong color pebble sheen today, and I’m a little panicked because it looks like they’re chipping away the gunite shell as well… Want to know what you guys think about these pictures and if there’s any concern or if this is completely normal.

Some of the shell will be chipped out. Notice I said some. Go out there and "clean up" the chipped off stuff and let us see what it looks like that way.

Mine seems to look similar so far! Brand new pool, never even swam in
hopefully it’s no big deal, just such a big investment and to know this is what we get is so discouragingAttachments
Ok. Phew. Providing there's no loose material left, the rough surface provides more surface area for adhesion. While ugly, it's a good thing.

The chipped out gunite/plaster looks fine but I don't like that big, long crack that I see in the second picture ?!

Some roughness is better than smooth. People have had surface sandblasted to remove old plaster, which produces a very smooth texture, only to have the plaster sub come back and intentionally rough it all up. You need a bit of roughness for the plaster to have good mechanical hold. The plaster applicator will then smooth the top layer out and you’ll barely notice it.
