I decided to get a pool robot and was looking at the Dolphins. I was focused on Dolphins because of the "ultra-fine" filter available. I was leaning toward a Triton PS or refurb Nautilus CC from Pool Partz.

Based on lots of suggestions here to talk to Margaret at Marina, I went ahead and gave her a call. She said that the CC would have trouble with my sloped pool (roughly 3' - 5.5' deep) and recommended the Evo 604 instead (or the 502 if my budget wouldn't allow for the 604). She also said a fine filter is available for the Evo. The 604 is more than I wanted to spend, but if it's worth the extra in terms of performance and durability, I'll buy once and cry once (or cry every 5 years or so ;)).

Does anyone use a fine filter on their Evo? Or have any idea how it compares to the Maytronic/Dolphin ultra fine?

My pool is screened so I don't have debris like leaves or branches. But I notice when I brush the bottom, a poof of dust kicks up. I always try to brush the dust toward the drains but am never really successful. I occasionally vacuum with the basic manual thing hooked up to my skimmer, but I don't feel that I'm really picking anything up with it since there's no scrubbing action with it. I'm hoping that a robot vacuum will help.

Answered my own question. My Evo 604 arrived from Marina this week. They swapped it to the fine filter before shipping it (saving me like $70!). The robot picked up all kinds of sand and silt. Looks like it’s gonna do the trick!IMG_7566.jpeg

Dog,

I want to see the original filter, as the one in your pic looks exactly the same as the one I have.

Mine picks up the same sand, dirt, etc...

Yours could be finer than mine, but impossible to tell from your pic.

I took my filter out, hoping it had a part number, but it does not.. It does have the following...PPGF 10% then 1A.. I suspect that has to do with the type of plastic, but just guessing.

What about you???

You'd think they would make the new one a different color, so everyone would want one...

Thanks,

Jim R.

The mesh on the filter is really fine. Like almost where you can’t see through it. The stuff it picked up was like wet moon dust. Pretty impressive.

But no markings to speak of on mine either. Just some manufacturing codes I think. Here’s a picture.

This is it IMO.

Small, medium and large filtration. The arrow points to the fine version.

The dial pointing to the filter type would make sense. Given that it’s pointing to a bunch of small boxes, indicating a tighter “weave”, it makes sense that would say it’s the fine filter.
