So I'm in the process of getting my levels balanced. I'm assuming I've got some algae because I can't get the chlorine levels to hold. Is this patch of film on top of the water related to algae or is it something else?

By how much does your FC drop and over what period of time? What’s your latest FC and CC reading, and do you know your CYA level?

I'm still waiting on my TF-100 test kit so I'm not sure on the numbers yet. I was going to get the water tested tomorrow at Leslie's in the mean time. I just wondered if anyone had seen this before.

Can you pick it up? Or is it gooey and your nail can pick some up and smear it on white paper? Does it puff and blow away?

Those are all examples of algae, I've asked. I can't see thru the purple picture if I'm looking at stains or something in the water?

yeah... sounds reasonable.
Until your test kit arrives I would suggest you add a gallon of liquid chlorine in there daily and brush the pool. When the kit comes do a full panel of test for us.
