Any tips on how to clean dirt stuck on bottom of pool?

Hi everyone, any tips on how to remove the dirt stuck on the bottom of my pool? I tried scrubbinng and lots of vitamin C with no much luck, my pool tech is telling me the only way is to drain and power wash. I had a lot of dirt sitting at the bottom for months during my deck renovation. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Was it building debris that was sitting on the bottom of the pool? Any chance there was copper in there? You can put a bit of dry acid in a sock and rub that on the stains and see if it reacts to that.

First of all you have to recognize what your problem is to fix it. That is not dirt stuck to the bottom of your pool. Your plaster has been stained by the organics or metals in the dirt that sat on the plaster.

You now either need to identify the type of stain to chemically treat it or strip off the surface layer of plaster that is stained to expose new plaster.

How old is your plaster?

Hi mgtfp, correct, there was demolition around the pool and all the contruction debris and concrete went on the pool and sat there for few months. This is something I will have to discuss with my contractor since they should have been more careful, but for now just trying to get a these stains out, I will be buying a test kit to see if is copper. Thanks

How old is your plaster?

Thanks! ajw22, will be buying the kit today to know the type of stain. I'm not sure how old the plaster is as I just bought the house last year, but seems like it was build with the house so pretty old.

Plaster gets more porous with age. You can be looking at worn out plaster and power washing or an acid bath to strip off the stained plaster can leave you with little to no plaster.

Understand the risks of some of the advice you are getting from “contractors”. Their advice got you into this mess and they have no problem leading you down the path of a plaster job.

1980, thanks for the heads up! Definitely not wanting to drain and acid wash, seems too harsh
