Good morning. Thankful for all the great ideas and suggestions we have found on this site. Curious if you have any ideas or suggestions on what these brown spots (pics 1-2) that seem to be spreading all over the plaster. We are also getting some black spots (pics 3-4) as well but not spreading as bad as the brown ones pictured. Leslies said the brown spots may be metal stains and said to rub an orange on it but that didn’t help. They don’t scrub off so didn’t think it was algae or mold? Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Did you add abalone shells into your plaster mix? If so that is probably what it is.. Did you just have the plaster done? Here is a thread that will make you not love your plaster company at all if it is abalone shells...

I am first time user on TFP and joined up after seeing older post relating to the issues of Abalone Shell Chips causing brown staining in Diamond Brite Plaster. I am not referring to the shells losing their brilliance...this is an actual stain in the plaster around the shell Has anyone else...

Thanks for the reply. We did not add the abalone shells....we wanted to but our plaster guy said he refuses to add them anymore due to the discoloring. We were upset about it but apparently he knew what he was talking about. Plaster was done in December of 2020. Just recently started noticing the spots within the last month or so.

Hey slim !!! Got any pics from the build process ? If so see if the spots kinda line up with the rebar ties. Many times they aren’t folded down and poke through the finish leaving similar spots.
