I have a pool with an Ansylbrite finish from 2016. I'm now getting white patches showing up with the finish getting rougher. My question is what should the Calcium Hardness be? I have been keeping my CH about 270 for the last few years. In the Anthony Pool Catalog it recommends a CH between 175 and 250 for that finish but that sounds low. TFP recommends ideal CH for a plaster finish between 350 and 450 but I have a Ansylbrite which is a combination of exposed quartz aggregate and white cement. I have been looking for years for the right answer to this. Hoping someone can help me with this.

Welcome to TFP.

CH of 250 or above is fine. More will make no difference. And your calcium level is not causing the white spots.

White Spotting of New Plaster Pools The problem of plaster spotting has been an ongoing puzzle and controversy in the swimming pool industry for over three decades. The generally round, smooth-yet-unsightly white soft spots in new plaster pools have long been a source of contention among pool plasterers, and pool chemical service firms or pool owners, each blaming the other for the phenomenon.
Calcium Nodules in pools What are calcium nodules? In swimming pools and spas, they are small mounds, bumps, deposits, or “slag” piles of calcium carbonate which are formed from material that has been released from the plaster. The small calcium nodules are rough to the touch, hard, and generally gritty. Nodules may form singularly (far apart or sporadically), or many and close together along a crack in the plaster surface.

Thanks for getting to me. I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I've been following TFP chemistry guidelines and it has really helped me out and especially with keeping my PH under control.
