Just installed my new Tristar XE. On 100% it keeps the strainer basket full. Same as on 80%. When it kicked down to 50% it loses pressure. But still good enough flow for the chlorine generator. Should I just run it on 80% all the time. Or 70% since 1.5 HP/2.25 HP is 66.7%.

Lower RPM results in lower flow rates so there is less head loss in the plumbing and the pressure gauge will read lower PSI. This is normal and to be expected. On really low RPM, the gauge may read 0 PSI but that doesn't matter as long as water is flowing.
