Another pool north of Dallas

Any of you DFW folks have purple diamond loropetalum in your landscaping? Thinking of using it as basically a hedge behind the scupper wall of the pool. I will also paint the shed white and have plans to do a little more to put lipstick on that pig!

Then I was thinking of pampas grass between the scupper wall and the spa - any suggestions?

Just curious, any idea what size PVC pipe was used?? 1.5 inch, 2 inch??? My PB wants to use 1.5 for my new IG pool. It seems 2 inch is better but I'm not 100% sure as opinions are different on the subject. Thx

About the Pampas grass....i too was considering that around my pool and was STRONGLY warned against it by both the lanscape company and my pool service. They are apparently known to attract rats, mice and snakes, which then end up in the pool. Theyre also hard to control, in terms of growth. Bummer. I do still love the way they look though.
Im not familiar with the other plant, but it looks beautiful, as does your pool.... :)

Donny - I believe it was 2 inch PVC

LeLori - well that's a bummer! I wanted something that had some height also movement in the breeze. Also that's the best spot to clean the pool from that side. Hmmmm, back to the drawing board!

There are other ornamental grasses that will give you the same effect. What I did when I was landscaping my pool was to drive around looking for nicely landscaped yards and such and just copy what they did. Like LeLori said Pampas grass is no good and I would stay away from it.

Thanks Flippy, I've been doing that, most folks here have the standard builders installed landscaping for Dallas which seems to be holly, small roses and cleyara and not much else. I'm holding on until the nurseries get stocked up for Spring. Trying to find plants that will do well in the extremes of Dallas weather - 106 in the summer, 20 in winter, and drought while complimenting the pool and house is definitely a challenge.

On the good side, signed the deal with the contractor for the outdoor kitchen and ordered the grill. Not sure when he will start but it will take a couple of weeks for the grill to arrive, decided on a Napolean.

Dave - we recently moved from Clear Lake and could grow pretty much anything there. Unfortunately, that's not the case here in the now frozen tundra and in a few months the arrid desert known as DFW! When we moved in mid august everything was laying over dead since we are on water restriction and can only use the irrigation once a week. Now due to the below freezing temps and ice storm, the plants that survived the heat are shivering little stalks that have barely held on. I'll check out houzz. Btw, I miss Houston!! Lol

Two different plants you may want to look into that I have. I have a ornamental grass I think it is called deities it is a thick blade with white or yellow flowers in the spring. I also have red yuccas which are drought, cold and heat tolerant. The ornamental grass will burn when it gets below 20 but you cut it back anyways each spring. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Small world. Well, on the bright side, you don't have the massive spawn of summer mosquitos to deal with! Make sure you post the Outdoor Kitchen progress!

Will do - he said it's about a 2 -3 week wait on the stone and granite. We are using the same contractor we used for the patio cover. We are trying to match the stone on the pool to hopefully tie things together. Timing will be perfect, grill should be delivered around the 21st. I found these photos that I really liked but he wasn't sure if they could curve it and incorporate the current post so we will see, if not it will be ok. I like the frig being on the end for easier access.
