Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

Thank you, Marla for both counts! I'm not getting in the pool as often the last week or so, and I miss it. I sure wish I could afford to heat the entire pool everyday. But I'm glad we have the spa. I'm enjoying it far more than I thought I would.

I'm trying to be patient to see your pool plan options!!! I hope we get to see some soon.

Take care,
Suz.

Suz, we may be meeting 2 PBs on Monday & Tuesday nights to go over designs. Hopefully I'll have more info then. I'm trying to be patient, too. LOL!

I didn't realize your pool was 24k gallons. I can see why you wouldn't want to heat it!

I just had to pop in and say hi Suz. I miss daily updates on your pool build. I am GLAD it is over, but still. I miss it!

Hey, everyone, I have to chime in. I really was hooked on the new builds also. And all the wonderful chatter on TFB , especially in the "under Construction" thread. . I wish I had known then what I know now. It would have made it so much easier. Having a pool built in your backyard is a definite "experience." Having this forum to share, voice concerns, and receive feedback was amazing! Suz, Kim and Wendy were all amazing. They are all great cheerleaders!
I am continuing to follow new builds, and I miss Suz as well. Glad to see you back, Suz
I hope I don't miss anyone's new build. Mine went pretty quickly. I posted tons of pictures and loved every minute. It was something I didn't talk about at work or really anywhere else. Most people don't care. But TFP people LOVE seeing and hearing about new pool construction.
So I'm following all that I see. I hope I haven't missed anyone's!
Janny

Marla,
My husband and I truly wish we had heated our pool. It is so cold. We are wondering if that is an option after the fact.

I'm so giddy to see the final product with all your hard done up and such! It turned out beautifully!

If you had to do it all again, what would you change? Anything?

Thinking on the heating issue, I knew I had seen aquariums divided, so why not a pool? (you'd have to be conscious of where the feeders and such are, but Id think it could be done.

I think this video shows a great idea, Flip up pool dividing swim wall - YouTube

but why not just put a track on opposite walls, and slide a piece of plexiglass in? This would at least divide the pool in half so you aren't heating the entire thing. You'd want to be careful of the plexiglass color so folks don't run into it, or jump onto it. When you want the full pool again, just pull out the plexiglass.

What would I change? Hmmmmm, well I know I think of things off and on. I should make a list so I can keep them. Do you think I can take that list with me in my next life? I won't be building another pool in this lifetime! Ha ha!!!

Here's what I can think of for now:

* BIGGER pool - I wouldn't change what I have where we live now, but ohhhhhh, just give me more property next time!
* If I could have a bigger pool, I'd definitely go 9 or 10 feet for the deep end. A good size shallow end and the same for the deep end with a nice, gentle slope. My space just didn't allow for that.
* Use glass tile mainly on the flat surfaces like the sun shelf, benches and steps. I also like it on the slope of the spa spillway. In my yard, the tile doesn't show up as much as I thought it would on up and down surfaces. It's beautiful, but I'd put more of my $$$ for the flat surfaces.
* I think I'd use the glass tile Appelbe used, but I'd have to see how that brand holds up compared to mine. Saving the money would be nice, and I think I'd like it just as well.
* Have some of the spa jets much lower for the calves
* If the spa plumbing would be configured like ours now, I'd skip the blowers for the spa. They're almost too strong for me, but maybe I'll use them some time.
* a deeper spa, so I could tread water for exercise in the colder months
* skip the Polaris and plumbing
* skip the inline chlorinator
* smaller pumps or VS pumps for the water features. I'd like them to be slower, softer, and maybe quieter
* I think I'd skip the auto fill, but I could change my mind about that later
* A darker Pebble finish for extra warmth..... Well, no, I know exactly what I would get - the finish Spool used. Someone else on here (I think in Texas) got it too, but I can't remember his name. Gosh I love that finish.
* double or triple the abalone shells - love the sparkle
* And.... if I was rich enough, heat the pool everyday!!! So Household, you may have a very good idea!

Don't misunderstand, I love, love, love our pool. It makes me smile whether I'm in it or out of it. And I never look at it with any regrets. But as someone wisely said on another thread: To really know what pool to build, you have to have owned a pool. That may not apply to me, but I learned so much from TFP. And for me, I have to live an experience and space to truly know how it's going to feel. That's just me.

I have a ton more for the list, I Would Do the Same Again. That must mean we did a lot right!

Suz, a few questions! [emoji5]

How is your spa configured that you think you might skip the blower if you did it again? I might see if we can do that.

How deep would you go on the spa? The PB said standard is 3'5'' so we're thinking about 4'. I want to be able to exercise in there but at the same time, my kids will play in it. Looking at this treadmill and need to make sure it fits inside the spa dimensions so I can use it year round.
Underwater Treadmill @ Sharper Image

How much were the abalone shells and are they worth it? What is the difference between that and the glass beads? I don't see the abalone shell option anywhere so curious.

Thanks!

Twinkiesmommy, I'm so sorry I missed your post. I'm sure I'm too late now to be of any help with your questions. If not, let me know, and I'll be happy to answer them. Since we're both in Cypress, you're welcome to come visit our pool for ideas - again, probably too late for any help. We're near Grant Road and N. Eldridge (Cypress is so spread out, we might not be close enough for your time....).

Take care,
Suz.

Spring is finally here, and I'm happy with the way the new plants (planted July 24th, 2016) have survived and are blooming. That's a tough time of year to plant, but my landscaper did a great job. Poor plants, the heat was so bad that part of the summer. I really only lost maybe 2-3 small plants. The rest are doing great - not bad at all. I did lose my beloved tulip tree that my mom had bought for me. It was an existing tree, and I believe all the pool and deck construction was too much for it. I will replace it - really missed it's lovely blooms this year. Our huge lemon tree the landscaper transplanted survived! We even got quite a few blossoms, although not as many as usual. Still, I think that's a pretty good outcome. Time will tell if the new little lemons will hang on! My amaryllis are just now blooming, so I will have to add that picture another day, and I forgot to upload the lemon tree picture.

The azaleas (Formosa) along the back of the house.

The Mountain Laurel tree (native to the Texas Hill Country) I've wanted one for 40 years!!! I'm thrilled with the blooms - first year planted. The blooms smell like grape kool-aide. Drift roses are at the base of the tree. Their colors are a little washed out here. I'll try another shot later. I've never had drift roses before - I'm in love with them.

Looking out to the back of the pool and yard.

The Chinese Fringe tree. I've never had one of these, although I had seen them in the area. The landscaper suggested it, and I was so glad he did. It is a moderately small tree and he told me it will have nice fall colors. I didn't see any fall colors this past fall, but then again, we didn't have many cool spells in the fall this year. The blooms have made up for the lack of fall color. I wasn't sure it would bloom this first year or not. I love it!!!

Really more of the same, but I just like this shot. It does show what's behind the pool. The low plants next to the back of the pool are agapanthus which will (if they bloom correctly - I haven't always had good luck with them) bloom blue spikes. They also cover up that part of the back raised beam that for some reason the PB said they don't face with tile or anything. Why is that???? Oh well, it doesn't show now. And maybe I'll get lucky with blooms, right?!!!

Thanks for checkin' in. I hope everyone is having a terrific spring - swimming, planning a pool, or in the midst of building a pool!!!
Take care,
Suz

Thank you, Marla! Funny, but I just posted on your thread. I've missed hanging out with you guys. Maybe I'll finally get caught up!

Your pool is amazing! I know you are more than ready to start getting in the water! You're going to love, love, love it!!!
Suz
