Hi all,
IMG_4791.jpegIMG_4791.jpegIMG_3852.jpegIMG_5403.jpeg
I just came upon this site and am desperately hoping it can help. This pool is my abiding joy and also my constant stressor.

I have a 4yr old 16’round above ground pool. I’ve had the mustard algae for 2.5 years. I’ve tried every product and protocol from the pool stores and internet blogs. I am going to try SLAM next month when I’ve got a few days off work in a row and can devote myself fully to it. I’m currently doing the calculations and acquiring supplies.

I’m quite convinced this is mustard algae rather than pollen. It accumulates at a constant rate from the day I open the pool in March until closing in November. Photo attached. My water is always clear and my chemistry is quite close to perfect, except for a few oops after storms or traveling.

My complicating factors that make me fear nothing is ever going work, or at least not permanently:
-Pool is fully shaded under huge pecan tree (Texas)
-constant vegetative debris from tree
-constant critter poop, squirrel and bird, but mostly caterpillar. Peak caterpillar season puts cup fulls of this stuff into my pool daily
-being shaded the water is always cold, so I added a solar heater, average temp is 90-95

I think maybe the tree and possibly the solar heating system act as sources of constant re-exposure, so that even if SLAM works, I’ll end up with this stuff again.

Well, happy to be here, glad to have one last ditch thing to try. No real questions yet, I’m sure I’ll be back when I get going with the SLAM.

Thanks!!

Hey SRW and Welcome !!

How are you testing ?

How are you chlorinating ?

How often for both ?

If you follow the TFP chart for FC/CYA, the algae wont come back. The only reason the algae is there is a lack of chlorine. All the filter, and solar, and trees are separate issues.
