Am I ready to SLAM?

Time is tough to predict on length of SLAM.

With crystal clear water just keep doing OCLT each night. Should be done soon. Be sure to keep brushing especially those hidden areas.

Ok, so my wife just went and tested the CYA again and said the black dot went away just barely below the 40 mark.

Should I SLAM using 40 for my CYA or do I round all the way up to 50?

Maybe this is why my SLAM has been taking a while? We had been using CYA of 30 based on our first test results, which were done in the kitchen(it was dark outside)and not outside as instructed.

I would use CYA of 50 for your SLAM levels.

That would have a significant effect on how long your SLAM is taking.

Hallelujah! I think I’m done with my SLAM!

Pool is crystal clear, CC .5 and OCLT: no loss.

I’m going to keep SLAMing and do the OCLT one more day just to be sure.

Assuming I pass again tonight, I’ll start to bring my FC levels down and re-test everything to get the water completely balanced. I’m sure I’ll have several questions through this process but my first question is...once I get my CYA up to 70, what should I shoot for as my minimum FC level and my target FC level? I’ve seen two different charts on this website; one showing MIN: 5.1 Target: 8 and a different chart showing MIN: 3 Target: 5 for CYA of 70

Also, once I know my “target level”, do I try to hit that target number at the end of the day when the chlorine would be at its lowest?

I test my water in the morning just before the SWCG runs its cycle for the day. That is the low point of FC for the day. I keep my FC at or near the Target level for that test.

Since you have a SWG, the chart to go by is for a SWG pool which is a minimum FC level of 3 and target 5 for a CYA level of 70.

Make sure the pool is being brushed weekly, the chlorine alone will not kill stuff once it starts to grow on the walls.
