Getting ready for concrete. These little caps cover the gaps between the 8' coping sections to clean up the joint.

Once concrete is poured these are locked in and cannot be removed or replaced. On the side facing the pool water they need to be glued. The coping manufacturer says to use silicone. I have tried GE silicone II (the best there is) and also PL premium. I am not getting a good bond. Problem is, if they pull away from the coping kids will pull on them etc.

This is a pretty important thing IMO. I gotta make them stick and stick forever.

My only thought is to sand away some paint on both the coping and the cover.

Ideas?

I have exactly the same Vastec coping you have and installed it myself too.

First of all, Silicone is not an adhesive. As you know, it's not going to work.

You can use a dab of liquid nails if you want to adhere the beauty cover to the coping. I promise you, liquid nails will never come loose and will be there until the end of time.
That is some good stuff.

JB Weld will most likely do the trick too.

On the back side, I used sheet metal screw and screwed that to the lip on the top of my composite pool wall. Now and then, one would want to be crooked, so I tin snipped a piece of a coca cola can to use as a shim to keep the thing straight when I screwed it in. It all turned out perfect.

Liquid nails is a polyurethane based adhesive. So is PL Premium (which I’ve tried). Clamped for 24 hours. Holding, but has already come away a 16th of an inch from the coping. I don’t see long term success here. It dries pretty hard. Maybe liquid nails is different. Not common here in Canada.

Cant picture the pop can thing, Lol.
