Liquid “shock” and “bleach” are the same exact chemical (unless it is labeled as non-chlorine shock). Pool suppliers call it shock because it is, in their world, used for that process.

You just need to know the concentration to calculate the correct dosage.
 
Thanks! I was searching for Chlorine. This is Shock which I have (12.5%) although likely degraded somewhat by now. Can I not use that?

You can definitely use it, but just be aware that if it is degraded it might not raise the FC level by as much as you expect. Even though it’s labeled as 12.5% it might now only be 10% or even 6% depending on how much it degraded.

So you might want to add a little extra and/or test the water after 20 or 30 minutes just to make sure the FC level really did get as high as you expect it and need it to be.
