Algae under the tiles

Hi everyone,

Today one of the little tiles has fallen off and I’ve discovered a filthy layer of green algae underneath.

I completed the SLAM process a month ago and the water has been crystal clear up until yesterday when I detected a slight hint of algae in the bottom. Today, I’ve been SLAMing the pool again just to make sure I’m getting rid of the algae.

But my little girl has discovered a tiny tile above water level that has fallen off and there is algae underneath.

Do you think there’ll be algae underneath the tiles of the whole pool?
What can I do?

You have cracks in your grout that allow water to get behind the tiles and erode the thinset until they fall off. You probably have other tiles that are loose. The long term fix is to find any lose tiles, remove them, clean the area, reattach with pool thinset, regrout and fix all the cracked grout areas.
