I’ve been a bit busy last 3 weeks or so and have only had time to drop in the robot on the weekends and test later that day. Numbers have been good and debris isn’t bad so it’s been ok overall. This week though I’ve noticed spots of algae where the robot can’t get too - round deck/steps in the shallow end and in corners of bench in deep end. I’ve always just scrubbed those areas during the week and weekend because it takes 10 min max and keeps it clean. Like I said water testing has been fine but do I have to do a “mini SLAM” if there is such a thing because of the algae? Or should I just try to scrub those areas better like I used to?

Awwww boooo. Kinda what I thought I might hear but better to do it when it’s light like this I guess before it’s a green swamp.

Little follow up after this post…

We were away for 5 days after I posted so didn’t feel comfortable slamming but I scrubbed and vacuumed before and it was clean and FC levels held steady. For added protection I dumped a gallon of chlorine before we left and came back to a clean pool (minus 2 dead baby squirrels). This morning’s test is spot on and water is clear despite some normal debris we get from leaves etc.

Going to do an overnight test and I’m thinking if I pass then I don’t need to SLAM and can get my CYA up to normal level (today tested low but I left it in case I do need to SLAM).

Quick follow up -

Passed OCLT and water looks clear all around. FC has been in maintenance range and I assume would have dropped during OCLT…correct?

The spots I had are gone and have not returned and I’d like to bring CYA to range now as I kept it lower before while going through these steps. Think I’m safe at this point?

This is bugging me a bit. I’ve seen in the deep end these brownish sand-like areas usually by the end of the day. I never see it in the morning. I had clean water last week but now seeing these areas again and have no clue why. I thought it could be sand/dirt from kids using it but today was a cool day and they didn’t swim at all and I still saw it. Tends to be only in deep end and only see it along the creases between sections of the liner.

Deep end only huh? Sandy texture? No chance it's soft/grren algae trying to return huh? Well, perhaps its sediment blowing onto the surface of the water during the day, drifting over towards the skimmer in the deep end, then finally sinking and collecting there?

Maybe I’ll let it collect/settle again then use the vacuum to waste to clear it out. My guess is the robot would just go over it and wouldn’t be able to suck it up correctly. This is a close up I just took. From far away I don’t see anything but I zoomed all the way and clearly you can see where it is.
