Algae outbreak before closing

Hi, new member here. I had trouble all summer keeping my pool clean. The last month I had more and more green. My chlorine was all over the place, normally too high. Anyway, once the solar cover stopped getting the pool warm enough, I gave up. We drained over the past few days and cleaned everything.

It sounds like you are saying your chlorine level was too high to keep the algae away. Is your CYA over 200? I'm guessing you are not using a proper test kit like the TF-100 from tftestkits.net or the Taylor K2006C. With either of those kits you will be able to maintain your pool algae free if you follow the [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA].

To get you ready for next year do some reading in pool school linked at the top of the page. Best place to start is ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry.
