I have an irregular shaped pool so I have a few uncorrectable dead spots.
i did a successful slam 3 weeks ago and my numbers have been maintained
FC 6.5
TA 110
CH 250
CYA 45
PH 7.6
Temp. 85
m
I brush and vac once a week
my issue is on about the 5th day or so I still get some green algae in the corners of the dead spots
Am I being tooo fussy .
I have been lead to believe if I could maintain the above numbers I should have no algae between brushings

Are you using this to guide your FC levels- FC/CYA Levels

Consider your CYA at 50, not 45. There are no "half ways" so anything over 40 is considered 50. This may be part of your problem.

I would suggest performing an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test and if it shows something growing in the water you can go right in to SLAM mode. Afterwards since you know you have dead spots in your circulation, I would suggest keeping your FC a point or two higher than normal. ALso consider if your FC ever drops down below minimum safe levels which encourages algae to take hold.

Also check behind lights and ladders for hidden algae.

TerryV,
lots of people slam and then not long afterward, algae is back.
In most cases, they think they completed it, but just didnt hang with it quite long enough.

however there are instances when very poor circulation does happen such as under ladder steps and behind lights. or if the returns arent pointed so that they achieve best circulation.

If your algae is open to the main body of water, then circluation combined with not quite completing the SLAM might be the root cause. Suggest that when you believe you have completed the SLAM, to keep it going for another 2 or 3 days.

The only way to have algae is not enough chlorine. Whatever your level it isn't correct you don't have enough chlorine. Add more chlorine!!

Terry,

I completely agree with Dave and PG... I am not a real believer in "Dead spots" being the cause of algae.. at least when it comes to the plaster surface of the pool turning green.

Do it again, longer and harder.. Once it is really gone, it should not come back.

Thanks,

Jim R.
