I just started using my used Endless Pool and am working through a few issues. There is a vertical combo skimmer/filter that connects at the bottom to the pump (pic attached). I think this is a poor design because any water leaks will be a problem with the non-waterproof pump. In fact, the air relief valve on top of the skimmer leaked today during my first swim and triggered the gfci breaker.
I keep the water level about halfway up the skimmer but a heavy thunderstorm can raise it, which happened this week. I don't want to go much lower with the water level because I used 2" foamboard on the floor which has its benefits but also takes away some depth. Also, the manual says too low of water can pull air into the system and too high can cause weeping from the air relief valve (my issue).
So my question is, how critical is that valve? On my unit, it's just a rubber thing that sits there until something pushes it up. If I could seal that off, the water leakage would decrease.
Also, I need something to protect that pump from future leaks. It can't be airtight bc it needs airflow. I'm picturing in my head a tiny pump umbrella!
Any suggestions?
