Air going through my pump

Morning guys. 24K gallon vinyl liner in ground pool. 1HP new at the beginning of the season Hayward 1HP pump and motor assembly. Also have a Sta Rite nat gas 333K heater. 2 skimmers. One in the deep end one sort of closer to the shallow end. Pool is overfull for a few days. Skimmers at different levels, not sure why One is a little higher then the other by 3 or so inches. .

Pump runs from 7AM to 7PM everyday. Every morning I check everything over before work. This AM, I saw a lot of air going through the pump. I left open the air bleeder on top of the filter for over 10 minutes. I opened up the pump and cleaned out a very small amount of debris. Checked both skimmer baskets, clean. Can't stop the air. It is pulsing out of the bleeder tube. Everything looks good so I am at a loss. I had 10lbs on the press gauge so cartridge filters seem good but I have not opened them yet.

What would cause this all of a sudden. The pool being overfilled? One skimmer is right on the mark the other is a little high. Where do I start? Thanks!!

I’ve had success diverting all of the water to the return that had some air in it. So close off water to the return that is fine this will push more water through the one pulsing. Not sure if it will work for you but has for me. Only do it for a few minutes then turn it back to go through both.
Another thing to check is possibly the skimmer basket is floating because of the high water when the pump turns off. Maybe put a rock in there to weight it down.

Read that wrong if waters in the pump maybe divert the water away from the skimmers for a bit and pull water from floor drain, bleed the line at the filter via pressure gauge and see if that helps then put it back to feeding water from both floor and skimmers. Again same thing with high water and pump going off they tend to float a rock can help.

Thanks for the reply. Both skimmer baskets are good, not floating. I will take the water level down when I get home. Have to drop it a few inches. But When I checked the skimmers I did here the one that is at a good level kind of making an air noise so slightly. Never hear that before. It was was full of water and the suction was good. Not pulling in any air.

What would cause this? Thanks.

Your pump basket is clean? I had no clue my skimmer baskets were floating because they were fine when the pump was putting pressure on them pushing them down but I got a frog in my pump basket and realized that was happening so the rock helped. Not saying it’s happening to you though.
If the water is very high that’s probably it too. Try that. If your pressure is reading high clean your filter. A lot of this stuff is trial and error I found. Everyone here is extremely helpful so maybe others have some ideas.

Thanks again. Both baskets were sitting where they should be when I checked them both while doing some troubleshooting this AM. Both skimmer baskets and basket in the pump clear. Yesterday, no air. Today, air running through it. Only thing is the water is high on one skimmer. Nice vortex on one skimmer, the other water is almost to the top and no real vortex. I have to let water out when I get home. Could this be the cause? Thanks.

There is a good deal of air when I open the bleed valve on top of the filter. Never had more then a second or 2 ever. Most of the time none. Now lots of air, does not stop. Seems to now pulsate in small burst of water and air.

Has the pool always been that way?

It has never been this way. Always full of water in the pump basket with no air at all, ever.

The height of the skimmers. They should be level with each other. Was the pool built off level or has that occurred recently?

Is that a Hayward Super pump?

I had one and it seemed like the gasket on the lid was forever leaking. I ordered a cheap rebuild kit for the pump off of Amazon and replaced the motor bearing seal, lid gasket, and the diffuser seal in about 15 minutes. I also replaced the barrel nuts for the lid with some I bought off eBay because they were stripped and I didn't realize it so it wasn't being held down tight.

I moved to the house less then 2 years ago and pool was existing. For some reason not known to me, 1 skimmer is just mounted lower then the other by a few inches. From looking at it, it was built that way. So when I set the water level, the higher skimmer is at say 3/4 of the way up with water, the lower skimmer is at around half way. Both skim nice. Never a problem. They both capture debris.

Now from the rain. The higher skimmer is almost all covered and the loser is around 3/4. So the lower is the only one with a vortex going. The higher skimmer is just full over water with no vortex.

Would a restricted filter cause this or the high water. Yesterday it was good, today lots of bubbles.

Pool has been running flawlessly since early May. Never an air bubble but I usually take the water level down right away after a good deal of rain. Also I have not cleaned the cartridge filter out yet this year. Pressure is around 10 lbs. when it is clean, right now it is round 12 so not really restricted.

It can - what is your filter pressure? If high, the additional suction head can pull air through the pump basket gasket, drain plugs, etc. Clean your filter. Use Pool Lube on the all the pump gaskets. If you have a Jandy valve before the pump, lubricate its gaskets.
