Agriculture DE use in Perflex filter

Hello

Our local agriculture feed store sells food grade DE for use in agriculture.
It's pure DE, Farms mix it with feed for various purposes.

Has anyone used this in a DE filter? It's about half the price of Dicalite at the pool store.

We have a Perflex EC75.

You can not use food grade DE in a pool filter. It is not properly calcined and it will plug up and destroy the DE grid fabric. Only POOL GRADE DE can be used in a pool filter.

I just received similar info from the food grade DE manufacturer.

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, White Lake Earth is not suitable for use as a filtration aid. DE used for filtering is calcined, or treated at a very high heat. This process strengthens the structure of the DE, but also increases the crystalline silica content.
Our White Lake Earth is natural and non-calcined, it wouldn’t hold up to filtration use.
