Hello everyone,
I just tested my water
FC 3.5
CC 0.5
Ph 7.5
TA 80
CYA 60

Have a t100 test kit I know what chemicals to add but not sure what it means to aerate also getting signs of some Algae in pool just brushed yesterday. Should I slam it pool water is clear but not crystal.

Aerating is "injecting air bubbles in the water" BUT your numbers indicate no need to do that......Whay do you think you need to?

If you see algae, you need to SLAM your pool. Have you read the SLAM article?

Look in the upper right corner of any page. You will find an oval "button" called "Pool School"

In Pool School, Please read "The "ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry", You do not need to aerate.....your pH is fine.

I believe you are misunderstanding PoolMath. It is not like a computer at a pool store with a "here are your test results, buy this stuff and put it in the pool" printout, which most of us are used to when we start TFPC. Rather PoolMath is a calculator that helps you figure how much chemicals to add to the pool based on where your readings are and where you want them to be. It never instructs you to do anything, only shows you what it would take to get from the Now column to the Target column. Also if you are trying to actively decrease your TA level then you can ignore that, it will drop on its own as you add acid to the pool to adjust the pH.

If you see signs of algae then SLAM Process is the correct action. A little algae can turn in to a lot of algae fairly quickly if left unchecked. Luckily it sounds like you caught it quite early so it should be a quick process in your case.

Yes, you need to SLAM. Get on it quick, before the algae grows. A dose of acid to lower pH to 7.2 (It will also shave 5 off the TA), ten minutes brushing, then add bleach to get to 24 FC and resume brushing.

While you're undergoing the SLAM, it would be a good time to review the [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] You must have not been maintaining adequate FC or you wouldn't have developed algae. Keep FC up where it needs to be in the future and this may be the very last time you need to do a SLAM.

Also for the future: Poolmath will just tell you what you ask. If your pH is 7.5, you can ask it what it takes to get to 5.2 or 9.2 and it will tell you. But why would you? Just go down the list. Is the pH between 7.2 and 7.8? Yes. Make that the target. Chemicals needed - none. Next item, TA. Is it 50-90+? That covers a lot of ground. Basically, 50+. If yes, make the now the target and move on. No chemicals needed. If it's too low, then you get to pick a number to shoot for. That's when you pick something between 50 and 90. Anytime you're in the suggested range, make youyr current value the target. It saves you a lot of unnecessary fussing. The constant fine-tuning is a pool-store strategy to get you to buy more stuff.
