Advice on probable above ground pool leak

So as stated in the title, I highly suspect a leak happening in my above ground pool. About 4 weeks after a late in the year closing, I noticed that the water level in my pool seemed lower than where it was following closing. It was still unseasonably warm for the next month, so I hoped that maybe I still lost some water due to evaporation somehow. So I topped it off about 3 weeks ago and now I'm noticing that again the water looks low. After I filled it, I did take a measurement by putting a stick in the pool once the cover was lifted enough but now the water on the cover and at least the top layer is frozen so I can't specifically measure, but when I reach in under the cover I can tell it's lower by the distance from the closed off return jet port and the water. Maybe 6-9 inches. Next time I'll measure from the top lip to the water.

I have no idea where the leak might be. At this point the cover is still sitting on top of the frozen water and the water level is definitely still above 2 feet deep. I was told by my local pool supplier that these would be the 2 factors that would make the pool collapse.

My question is: as I obviously can't get to inspect anything now, and there are no visible signs of a leak outside, should I continue to try to add water periodically to try to make it to spring? Specifically, should I add water on top of the ice in the pool when we have several warmer days in a row well above freezing or will this somehow make it worse by putting more pressure on top of the ice? I know that ideally, I could see if the water just levels off and stops dropping, but on the other hand, I may have only so many warmer days to be able to safely run any water outside. Any advice would be great as I'm getting anxious about this as we get deeper into winter.

Welcome to TFP.

Yes, add water to the pool when you can.

Try not to disturb the ice on the pool surface. If the ice moves against the sides of the pool, its sides can be sharp and tear the liner.

If the water gets too low to support the cover just remove the cover. If it can’t be fully removed because its frozen inside just unsecure it so its not pulling on the rails/walls/frame.

If the pool has a drain plug thats a common leak location. Some people have resorted to just patching over the whole plug area from the inside (something to inspect in the spring)
