Advice on OB Pool Design in Florida

Hi all. Like other OBs after many months of interviewing pool builders and being blown away by some of the quotes I've decided to go the OB route and have been reading up on TFP daily!

I'd like to invite comments on the proposed configuration, specs, and equipment list.

Here are specs that I’ve pulled together: Please let me know your thoughts.

· Pool size 35' x 21' 6"
· Depth – 3.5’ – 6.5’ deep. Spa side is shallow end
· Shell- 100% Gunite
· Sun shelf as drawn. Add bubblers on shelf, and umbrella sleeve evenly spaced. 9” deep
· Spa shape oval with step and six (7) jets
· 2-skimmers, 3-returns (Is this enough), 2-drains, 1-vacuum port. Confirm placement is typical
· Add stairs to connect between the spa and shelf
· Paver decking also on existing patio
· Will need concrete footer for screen enclosure
· Interior finish- Darker mini pebble (TBD)
· 2-LED pool lights one each side-shallow and deep end, 1-LED Spa light
· Will add solar heating
· Child Safety fence
· Waterline tile

Here’s a preliminary Equipment list. I’m especially interested if one 3HP VFD Pump will be enough to power the water features (#3-Arc descents, 2-jet sprays, 2-shelf bubblers). I’m okay to turn off water features when in the spa. I’ve talked to an engineer who thinks I will need #2- 3HP pumps. He doesn't recommend the VFD. Also, I've read from other post folks prefer the Raypak heater any pros/cons using Raypak when all other equipment is Pentair? Anything else jump out?

Hey there Apoajames :) Welcome to TFP

My only concern is that 3.5 feet is too shallow! Take a tape measure and measure up your leg and see what I mean. Especially since you'll be putting in a sun shelf.
