Adding Borax

I have been running my new spa with the dichlor/bleach method from the information on this site and it has been fantastic thanks! I got the water balanced pretty quickly but I didn't use borates last fill. I have just refilled the spa and it is all balanced again but I'd like to try adding borates this time. In Australia it can be difficult to find the same products used over seas. I have some Borax which is Disodium Tetraborate Decahydrate and I'm not sure if that is suitable to use and if so does it change the calculations from Pool Calculator that I should be using?

Also after adding borates how concerned should I be about not letting the dog lick the spa water? He can't drink directly from the spa but does like to lick water off the ground / people / spa cover.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Lots of threads discussing borates and dogs...

It doesn't sound like licking water will cause problems although it depends on the size of the dog.
