Acid wash vs 4 week slam

I haven't had much luck over the years with my pool equipment. At the end of December the motor on my main pump went out and I had to wait until March to get the motor replaced. Of course, the evil algae was back and after restarting, the intermatic timer had issues and had to be replaced (which I did) yesterday. I was ready to start the SLAM today;however I really don't feel like going through this process for the next 3-4 weeks (that's how long it's taken me in the past).

I was wondering if an acid wash would be preferable to SLAM. I know it will be more expensive, but I don't know if I want to go through the process again (I'm getting old and tired :=) ).

Thanks for your opinions....

An acid wash removes layers of plaster and shortens the life of your pool surface.

A SLAM is used to eradicate algae from the pool system.

They are mutually exclusive.

Although if you are comfortable draining a majority of water and refilling with fresh water it can reduce the time for the SLAM Process you will still need. Not sure I would do that in Texas this time of year.
