A question on pool vaccum skimmer plate

I found the pool vaccum skimmer plate left behind by the previous owner. It is a 10 year old plate. Google reverse image search shows it is a Waterco Skimtrol Mk2 Skimmer. The issue is that the hole is 45mm. It is threaded. The hose I am getting in the shops are 38mm with a hose connectors at both ends.
I thought that there is some part missing but online images show exactly the same plate. I am tempted to put some duct tape on one end of the vaccum hose and get a tight fit with the plate. Or is there some adapter out there I need to buy?

I would not do that. Will your hose fit directly in the skimmer hole? Mine fits in my skimmer I don't need a plate.

I like using the plate too because the leaves go in the skimmer basket instead of the pump basket. It's easier to empty. Usually the pressure of the pump is enought to keep the hose in place even if it's not tight. If it really bother you, you can probably find an adaptor in an hardware or pool store. You can also buy a new skimmer plate. You can find a skimmer plate with a 90 elbow included for 13$ at walmart.

I looked high and low but the elbow plates are for above grounds which typically have a smaller diameter basket. :(

I've been manually vacuuming since 2012 and just this year it hit me that I don't need the plate all those times there's no/little leaves. My plate or hose collar have always sucked air with the connection above the water level. I get no air using just the hose to the skimmer.

Good to know about the smaller diameter basket. I have a regular plate to which I glued a 90 elbow and it work great. In my pool, when the water line is near the top of the skimmer, I can pass the hose through the skimmer mouth and the elbow is cover with water.

It's less stress on the hose collar too when it's not being yanked sideways IMO

Update:
I managed to unscrew the 45mm piece from one end of the old house. I screwed it to the end piece of the new house. It's working well although there is some leakage as I see water going in via skimmer box flap too.
But overall it works !

Thanks guys.
