How important is it to raise/maintain target total hardness level with a vinyl pool? does the hardness level affect other levels (CL, PH, TA, CYA etc)?
It is not very important to maintain calcium hardness in a vinyl pool. Many people are just fine with very low calcium levels. There is a small chance of foaming with low calcium. If you have foaming and low calcium you can try adding some additional calcium. You do want to make sure the calcium hardness isn't too high.
There isn't really any interaction between the calcium level and the other levels except for figuring out the risk of calcium scaling.
