pH is a measure of acidity. It is a scale of 0 - 14 with 7 as neutral, below 7 is acidic, above 7 is basic or alkaline. Pools should normally be maintained between 7.2 - 7.8. The pH effects swimmer comfort (it's a major cause for red eyes when too far out of the desired range) it also effects the chemical balance of the pool which in turn can effect the pool's surface and the filter equipment's longevity. Therefore keeping an eye on it, by regularly testing the water and adjusting as necessary (JasonLion has a pool calculator in his sig that can help you with dosing/ adjusting the pool's water chemistry)
