Make sure you get one of the recommended test kits, read Pool School 5-10 times, post pictures- we love pictures! Ask any and all questions, the folks on this forum are a great resource.
Oh, BTW never trust the pool store tests- your testing will ensure your pool is crystal clear and trouble free.
