What are alternatives to endless pool treadmill?

Hi,

Thinking to make use of the pool for real exercise. Those endless pool jet machines are too expensive for us. Is there any simple device (pole or belt, etc) that offers similar function? Any real life experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bought this leash thing for my wife. It also needed a length of rope since I had nothing at the pool edge to attach it, so I tied the rope around a brick column 15 feet away.

There's a fancier one that has a waist belt and a fiberglass rod it tethers to, I have no personal experience with that, only seen the videos on youtube.
