Just finishing up a build on a 18K pool with 9k spa spillover (effectively 27k on the volume/chemistry). It's my third pool. First one was a gunite pool in the DFW area 20 years ago. The second one was a liner pool in Northern Mississippi 15 years ago and now a gunite (pebble finish) pool in the HOT desert of West Texas. All have had D.E. filters and SWGs. It's been about 8 years since I last had to maintain a pool so between the fogginess of lost knowledge, changes in pool technology and switching from liner to gunite, I think I'm out of date on my pool maintenance habits. As a DIY-er, it doesn't scare me, I just need to get back up to speed.
Two new aspects are:1) Learning to maintain a pool in a high heat/high sun desert area; and 2) Having to maintain the pool for 30 days as a chlorine pool before converting it to salt.
At day 18, I'm well on my way to dialing in my chemistry for chlorine. I'm now exploring what the right targets are for CYA in either (sanitizer) scenario. I've found the forums to be quite helpful so I appreciate all the experts' comments.
