I just received the 2 - 16x40 solar covers I ordered and they are not 40' long. They are about 36' 9". I just wondered if that was typical or if they really should have been 40'. I needed a minimum of 38'.
My experience has been that they are a little longer than specified. They may have accidentally sent you a 36' cover which is a common size. Contact the seller and let them know. However, you don't really need to cover 100% of the pool so it may still work ok for you if you can get the seller to give you a heavy discount to keep it.
I would want a new one. In my experience, having a cover that isn't big enough is a pain, since water always ends up sloshing up on top of it, which makes it less effective. It also looks a bit goofy.
