I cleaned my sand last week and noticed the level of sand seemed low to me. About 60 to 65% full. Anybody know the proper level I should be running for the best filtration? Thanks
The sand in my Sta-Rite Cristal-Flo filter is up to the bottom of the upper curve of the filter if that helps. Still, the proper amount is decided my the weight of the media, not the volume.
Sand filters require about 8-16" of clearance between the top of the sand and the bottom of the backwash water outlet at the top. The exact clearance required varies from model to model. For a Sta-Rite System 3 S8S70 300 lb sand filter, the clearance between the top of the sand and the bottom of the distributor should be 11 inches.
The Sta-Rite Cristal-Flo doesn't give a clearance number in inches, it simply says to use the correct weight of sand.
