Insulation foam

Has anyone used Styrofoam sheets to lay on top of the water to insulate?
My pool get very little sun so I heat from a heat pump, so I was thinking if these foam sheets would float and im thinking it would be easier to put on than the solar cover.
Any thoughts?

I've never thought about it but I'd think the styrofoam would tend to pill and leave those in the water after a few uses.

Funny, I was thinking about this a couple of weeks ago. I saw those sheets of sytrofoam with the blue backing that are used as moisture barriers around foundations and wondering if they would work. Then we had two weeks of 97+ degree weather and I forgot all about it......

The type im looking at is the blue one, not the small bead type I too was thinking about the beads coming loose.
I was thinking of 1/2 thick sheets and cutting them into "pie wedges"

Whatever works for you. I'm thinking at some point these are a hassle to store, damaged easily if banged, bumped, etc. or if a big wind comes, they lift and get airborn. But it may work out just fine. I'll stick with the cover - it's amazing the amount of heat the blanket/covers keep in.
