My local Atwoods has yet to stock fresh pool shock. Wonder if they are phasing it out?

I keep checking Menards as that has been my goto for the last two seasons. They always have the BOGO some time before Memorial Day and then again around 4th of July. Can't beat 12.5% for $2.00 a gallon.

Heads-up for those folks who live near a Menards. The store I frequent near my house has really ampped up their stock of liquid chlorine and has two pallets of cases in the main aisle so I suspect that starting this coming Sunday (4/29/18) will be the start of their annual BOGO free sale.

Date codes on most cases were 18103 and some 18108, so really fresh.

Dang, bad news in southwest Missouri too wal-mart great value "concentrated" bleach $2.94, only 121 oz, and down to 6% this year. Same price as 8.25% last year. Got 3 to open pool but am shopping around now, janitorial supply, pool stores and whatnot. First janitorial supply can do 10% at $3.38/gal if I buy 4 cases.

I wanted to update all on the Bleach Price Comparison survey I started as the prices are starting to fall into place. Turns out with the increases in cost users appear to be better off heading to stores that carry 12% chlorine as the price per OZ appears to now be cheaper.........plus it means users carry fewer jugs.

6% on average is about .34cents per OZ of chlorine with one user who found it on sale lowering the average.
8.25% on average is about .28cents per OZ of chlorine
10% about .25cents per OZ of chlorine
12% about .21cents per OZ of chlorine

Best price on liquid chlorine?

Hello all, new pool owner here (purchased a used home with a pool). After doing some reading on this very helpful website, we would like to use liquid chlorine (bleach) in our pool instead of Cal-Hypo for the purposes of sanitizing and the process of 'shocking'. 18' x 38' rectangular in-ground pool with vinyl liner (the vinyl liner is the original one from when pool was installed 16 years ago). We are concerned that the Cal-Hypo will hurt the liner which is already 16 years old (how long do these liners usually last anyhow)?

Is liquid chlorine (aka bleach) really that much more expensive to use compared to Cal-Hypo and 3" Trichlor tablets? (we have a Trichlor tablet chlorinator in-line by the pool pump).

Any recommendations for the lowest cost liquid chlorine (bleach)? So far these seem the least costly:
-Home Depot HDX Chlorinating Liquid - 128 ounce, 10% Sodium Hypo, 3 gallons for $10 (no free shipping)
-Walmart Great Value Cleaning Bleach, 128 ounce, 6% Sodium Hypo, 1 gallon for $2.60 with free shipping

We will be opening the pool soon for the season, it has a Loop-Loc safety mesh cover on, so the water will probably be dark green we are assuming.

The jugs and even the outside of the 4 pack cases will have a 5 digit code printed on it. The first 2 digits are the year manufactured, the next 3 digits are the day # of the year it was manufactured.

So if you want fresh stuff, you will be looking for as close to 18119 as you can find (which would mean manufactured April 30, 2018).
