Is it normal to smell the bleach 2 houses down ??? I guess it's funny, but I'm thinking that a neighbor is going to call the EPA soon :lol:

You aren't smelling bleach, you are smelling combined chlorine (CC). When the conversion is complete the CC level will be zero and the smell will be gone.

My Baquacil pool was SO BAD, that I needed to do this !!! There's a lot of stuff floating around now, but I guess that's normal. My water was green before I started this !!! I'll continue on tomorrow.

I'm REALLY BAD with posting pics, etc. on the computer. If I can figure out how to do it, I will. Note to the REALLY GOOD LOOKING pool owners : I mean, the pool. :-D You may want to NOT LOOK at these pics, as my liner has pulled from the wall a few times, and repaired with whatever worked at the time. :x I'm just looking to get another year out of this pool, before an inground installation next summer.

I had to pick up the HTH 6 way test kit at Walmart last night, because I was starting my conversion then. It looks like it only shows the chlorine level up to 5. Of course, I need to keep the fc level at 15 during the process. Anyone familiar with this test kit, and am I lookng at it wrong ?
That is the way that particular kit works. To finish a conversion you will really need a FAS-DPD chlorine test. But for the first couple of days the simple OTO test in the WalMart kit is sufficient. When you are just starting, the FC level will fall very quickly, so you can just wait for it to come down to the range you can test for. But at the end of the conversion process you will need the precision and range of the FAS-DPD chlorine test.
Ok. So when The chlorine level falls below 5, which is the highest level it reads : Then use the pool calculator to see how much to add to get to the FC 15 level ? Like, if the level is reading 4, then use 4 as the current level, and 15 as the desired number ?
Ok. I just ordered the TF testkit. I needed to add three 128 oz jugs of bleach. PH was a little low also, 7.2 Heading to W-Mart to get another 10 128 oz jugs for now

Thanks for the positive info :-D At this point, my pool looks like a dull yellow bleach color. I know it takes time, so I'll wait it out :?
Come home from work today, and I could FINALLY see the bottom of my pool !!! :-D A little under 3 days, and it's almost clear. My test kit should be here tomorrow. This might sound stupid, but is it safe to go in the pool now to vaccum out all the Crud that settled ? And is it ok to swim in it after I clean it out, without everything balanced ? Just curious after adding all that bleach. Now I just have to read on how to balance everything when the test kit comes. Thanks again for all the help.
If you have a pool cleaner I would use that or vacuum it. Im not sure I would ant to be getting in it until the conversion is finished and your sure your water is balanced.
I don't have an automatic pool cleaner, so I'll have to go in when it's time to vac it. I was worried about all the bleach I put in. Everything looks like it settled to the bottom, so I would just vac to waste, not to filter right ? I have to read more tonight about the final process of balancing. I kinda rushed into this quick, but it looks like it will be worth it.

I would go in your pool anytime. Others here on the forum advise a more cautious approach.
Don't forget to slow down a little and change your filter media....but don't do it until your pool is crystal clear.

Don't change the filter media until the FC holds overnight. Your pool may look clear and you could still have a FC loss and CC, so wait until it holds overnight before you change out the filter media and add CYA.
Ok. I still have to keep adding the bleach until it holds overnight at 15 right ? After that, I would vacuum all the stuff on the bottom to waste. Then change the sand in the filter. Start back up, add CYA and adjust levels right ? I guess I should go and read everything on the conversion page, as I just kinda' skimmed through it during this process. :? Thanks again.
