I’m fairly new to the site and trying to understand chemistry and SWG. Despite having the Hayward Pro Logic system for 4 years, I have had no idea how to use it. I hired a pool tech for private “pool school”, and all my questions about controlling the SWG were answered with “Don’t touch anything…Just leave it like it is and you should be fine.” So, everything has been guess work. However, my system took a lightning hit and everything went blank. Therefore, I had to gain a better understanding, just to figure out where to go next. I sent display and main board to a guy in Quebec and he can fix just about anything. However, he said the boards were damaged in multiple places and he thought that the system had taken a direct hit of lightning. So, I ended up getting the Omni Logic upgrade. Because of the amount of time without any mechanism to sanitize, my pool was completely green, bordering on brown, along with 10,000 tadpoles that I spent many hours fishing out. I’ve been reading everything, but can’t seem to figure out the correct amounts to add. I shocked last night with 2.5 gallons of liquid chlorine and (2) 1 pound packages of dry hypochlorite, as well as 64 oz. of Algaecide, per the label. Based on readings, I had added 1.5 cups of Muriatic acid and 5 pounds of baking soda. I brushed the entire pool. Lots of particles I keep skimming out. Color is much better today, but I don’t know where to go from here. The chlorine has run its course, so there is zero chlorine. My brand new testing kit that I purchased 2+ years ago did not have CYA, so I purchased a tube and reagent by Taylor that arrived just this afternoon. As expected, my CYA level is zero as well. PH is 7.2 and alkalinity is 50. I tried to use the pool math app, and I can see the target levels, but have no idea how much chlorine and CYA to add to get there. The SWG has not been set up in the computer. The installation guy will come back to address once I finish the SLAM.
So, my question is…how much chlorine do I add to get to 3, and how much stabilizer do I add to get to 30 (and that’s a BIG “IF” I’m interpreting this data correctly). I have a 15,500 gallon finite pool.
Can anyone help me…I’m feeling extraordinarily (cognitively) challenged that I can’t seem to figure out the basics. My first pool had an in-line chlorine feeder, my second pool had a DE Filtration system, and this 3rd pool has a SWG and Hayward 1.85 HP variable speed pump. I have 4 relays that also control all my mechanical components to my Koi Pond (skimmer, waterfall, bio filter, fountain, lights, UV sanitizing system, and water removal pump…that’s 4 separate motors…my electrical pole has 8 outlets, just for the pond…all running through the Omni relays).
Anyway, can anyone advise?
