Pump upgrade in HP

My current (inground, 10K gal.) pump is a 3/4 HP and hardly has enough suction to vacuum the bottom. Is it feasable to upgrade to a 1 1/2 HP motor? a) it is currently a 110v feed. b) thinking about replacing w/2 speed motor (what controls are required ?). c) The pool is at my winter residence in Belize, and runs 12 months a year.

Stan, Lets talk about your equipment set up some. Can you close off the main drain on it's own? If you can then all of the pump power will be able to go to the skimmer or port you have the suction cleaner plugged in.
