Best way to add chlorine

I recently purchased a 12x48 above ground pool. What’s the best way to do the chlorine? If I use a dispenser with a puck wouldn’t it just get stuck against the skimmer?

What other options do I have?

Bleach or liquid chlorine.

If not a salt water chlorine generator, I'd use liquid bleach. Just plain, unscented, unthickened, non-Clorox product bleach. Then I'd use PoolMath (found at top of page) to tell me how much to add after each time I tested.

How much bleach should I add each day or to start off? Does it just go into the skimmer? Also does anyone recommend a good test kit? Thanks

Never pour chemicals directly into the skimmer. Slowly pour liquid chemicals (chlorine, bleach, acid) at the return stream into the pool at a slow rate.

Order a TF100 test kit
The only other real option for a test kit is a Taylor K-2006-C. Be careful comparing prices because the K-2006 comes in sizes, designated by a letter. The basic K-2006 has .75oz bottles. You need to get the K-2006-C to get the larger bottles that you want.
I also have the SpeedStir. It makes testing much easier.
