Help! Had a lot of trouble last year keeping our chlorine levels up last year. Come to find out now after opening, the level is so high its off the chart. Is there anything else besides draining the pool that can be done? We pumped the water out past the bottom step in the shallow end and replaced it with clean water. Its still high. I hope someone here can help me.

Welcome to the forum!

How are you testing your water? What is the current CYA?

The only way to reduce CYA in water is to remove water and replace it with fresh water.

Do you have a full set of test results we can see?

Take care.

If you can see the black dot with the tube filled that means you dont have any CYA. The Scale is logarithmic but reads 0 at the top and 100 at the bottom.
This means you have to add Cya to the pool. Look in to poolmath for quantities.

CYA was high last year, so we drained it and started over. Test said it was still high. We never got it right so we didn't cover the pool for the winter. The pool became a swamp. We have used Revive and have vacuumed it all up yesterday and it was clear. Today it is cloudy.
We were using 3 inch tablets from Sam's to keep the chlorine up but think this attributed to the CYA being high. It was eating the tablets up.
We are going to use the BBB method once we straighten this out.
