High pH and TA

I can't seem to keep my pH at a manageable level without using tons of MA. I get it down to 7.2-7.6 and it jumps back up. I am currently at 8.2. Ideas?

BTW... my TA is 160.. perhaps that is the culprit?

My TA was 200 in April.. I have added 6gal on MA since then.. shoudn't my TA now be closer to 80?

6gal = 24 qts * 5 TA I shoud be losing per qt = 120approx 200-120 = 80

Have you added any water since April? My TA was going up over the summer, which befuddled me until the doh! moment of remembering my fill water has TA 150.

Yea.. I add 3-5" every 7-10 days. I have not tested the TA on my fill water.

Yes, your PH is going up because of your high TA.

You should test the TA (and CH) level of your fill water. That is probably where your high TA comes from in the first place.'

Lowering TA down to around 80 would dramatically reduce the rate of PH increase.

Thanks... how much MA can I safely add at one time?

You only add enough acid at one time to lower the PH down to 7.2. You don't want to go lower than 7.0, regardless of the TA level.
