The tile isn’t that exciting, but has to be done in order for the next step. A couple of things, the tile guy placed the tile without cuts. I thought that was pretty cool. And he spaced them by eye. Also he cut the edges around the skimmer at a 45 degree. A perfect fit.
I am starting to level the dirt around the pool and compact, I have concrete guy coming buy tomorrow.

That pretty blue tile IS exciting as it is a BIG step towards you having a pool to enjoy! I LOVE it when I hear about an "artist" that has skills and does things right. I would love a picture of the skimmer box. That is one of my biggest beefs with tile guys. It can make or break a good job!

Can I ask who your electrician was? I am doing an owner build in Tucson as well. Plumbing goes in today! Yay! Anyhow, I am having a hard time getting the electrician to call me back! If you have anyone to refer, Id appreciate it!

Ok dirt is ready and five foot deck/coping will happen tomorrow! I visited my friends pool, he has salt finish concrete. It looked great. That is what we are going with. Now the bad news, I had to rent a cement pump or crane, I wasn’t aware the cement trucks will not go over the sidewalks, for fear of breaking them. I added a color, sandstone..
i will take pictures tomorrow!

:( on having to rent a pump.....you would think they would have one of those just for this reason. At least you found out before they showed up with your cement!

I like how the salt finish looks AND you are adding in color?? SWEET!

Better to rent a pump. My asphalt driveway has a nice split in it about midway up from when the two cement trucks showed up I’m my yard to shoot the pool then the sidewalks. Cement trucks are serious road-killers and they can easily smash a sidewalk to dust. Best to pay for the pumper truck because you know your local town will charge you 2X the going rate to repair a sidewalk simply because governments write ridiculous contracts with vendors.

Case in point - my neighbor had a water leak at her meter. Tucson water had to run a new line from the main to the meter. It required them to break up a small piece of the asphalt road, about 8’ x 12’. The following week they sent out a local asphalt company to remove the asphalt patch and do an official asphalt repair. Anyway, four trucks show up with a 6-man crew plus a seventh guy to hold the “STOP/SLOW” sign for traffic control. Only problem is this - I live on a private road that’s literally just a really long cul-du-sac; there’s only 12 homes in here. There’s literally no traffic whatsoever and certainly no need for guy to stand there with traffic-control sign. But, there you have it - Tucson water paid 7 guys to install an 8’x12’ asphalt patch ...

If your town has to repair a sidewalk, you can bet you’d be charged an arm & leg for it.

Most concrete co. have their drivers make h/o sign the delivery ticket even before they will drive onto private property . Once you sign they will run over most every thing you dont want them too . I have been pouring concrete for 45 years seen it all .

BTW nice job i have salt finish around my pool left spaces for grass (my wifes idea) it really has not been trouble. i did the concrete so im biased . MVIMG_20180228_141424.jpg

One more thing big boom pumps are $$$ and are messy and can leave you with a big pile of concrete to clean up line pumps messy but less $$$ sure you may know. good luck and really watch the salt finish when it is broadcast it is pounded it in and can leave marks the will ruin look. Screening the fines out of the salt helps too.

Started at 4 this morning to put up lights, the crew came at 5 to prep, cement at 6, and away we went.
They finished by 12:30 I believe. It looks darker right now, but it will cure lighter.
I have been watering it. I will send a completed picture shortly

As for the pump, no brainer, only other option was to use wheel barrow. I’m not sure how many wheel barrow loads it would be for 8 yards, but more than I wanted to move. That was an easy $250 spent.
Also talked to the concrete guy about the next section to be poured, we have a great deal worked out. I have to finish the Electric, the conduit will be under the next pad.

Hello everyone, I can’t believe it’s been a month since post. Lots has happened. I trenched for electrical, ran the conduit and wire, put in sub panels, built up the patio area with dirt. I will try and post a few pictures. Patio will be poured on 5/1, unfortunately pebble won’t be until 5/7

I was thinking of going to Home Depot and getting an end of hose meter. I am not sure how long it will take to fill. IF i cant find a meter, I will use the "picture" method

yes all that did caused some nasty clothes, in fact I left them on the porch and waited for a load of laundry to bring them in.

I havent ordered a kit. I thought i read somewhere about a discount? also which kit should I get, it seems like most people have the TF-100?
I have the links that kimkats sent me, I will get more diligent in reading those, now that I am getting close.

I do have a real problem, by doing an OB, and being a new pool owner, I have zero idea where to start. Especially once I start adding water.
I believe there is a method this site suggests to HOW to use the hose when filling..a sock on the end or something.
Whom would everyone suggest, I talk to for a live and in person pool tutorial?

The advantage to using your house's water meter for measuring the volume, is that you can run all the hoses you can find into your pool. There is some advantage to filling a pool fast, generally the faster the better.

Whatever you do, don't stop the fill once you start. That can leave a permanent ring on your brand new finish. You want to fill a pool from the very deepest part up. So that the ends of the hoses get covered quickly and are underwater. You don't want water splashing or running down the plaster anywhere, that can stain your finish, just as stopping the fill can. Socks over the ends to keep from scratching. All the ports into your pool should be plugged (returns, autofill, vacuum, etc), so that they don't leech any water. Dribbles out of ports can also leave a stain. Don't fill with your autofill system, that'd be water running down the side. That's about it.

There is some data about when you actually start your fill, in terms of plaster curing. I don't understand that, so can't advise. You might ask that question of others.

TFP staff love their TF-100s. I have the Taylor, and I like it. They both use the same Taylor chemicals. But...

I highly recommend you get either kit pronto. Fill day is hectic. Pool startup is somewhat hectic. You need to test your fill water, and you need to start testing and dosing your pool on day one (or day two at the latest). That is not the time to break open the test kit to learn how to use it. Get it now. Start practicing with it now (test your fill water, test a neighbor's pool water, put a few drops of chlorine in a glass of water and test that, whatever.) You get the hang of it pretty quick, but it takes a handful of times to start to feel confident with testing. Practice with everything except CYA. You'll add that to your pool, but it's not found in tap water, so don't waste the reagents, you'll only get zero. Enter your fill water test results into the Pool Math app by creating a new "pool" for it, so you'll have two pools in the app, one for your pool, the other for your fill water. Test fill water a few times a year and keep track in the app. That'll come in handy for strategizing how and when to add chemicals.

Be prepared to brush your pool (pole, brush, etc). You'll need to do that right away, at least twice a day. Keep your pool clean and free of leaves, dirt, debris, etc. No swimming (I forget how long.) Don't go into the pool while it's filling. There seems to be contradictory info about when you can safely run your vac. Some say wait a month. Mine was running within a week. Depends on your vac and your finish, I suppose. Seems prudent to wait as long as you can.

I used the NPC Startup Card for my startup instructions. There may be some here that don't support it.

Kim, Kim, what am I forgetting?
