Brown Spots

This is happening on my steps and swim shelf areas. At first i thought it was bird droppings (had neighborhood ducks for awhile) or granular fertilizer that got into the pool. Scrubbed off and made sure chemicals were at appropriate levels. Never seen this in 12 years of ownership. Happening in multiple locations. ANY help would be appreciated.

Do you have a Trichlor puck? If so, put it on one of the spots for a few minutes. If it goes away, it is organic. If no effect, try some Vitamin C tablets in a sock, crush them, and hold them on one of the spots, if it lightens considerably or goes away, it is metal.

Have you added any powdered chemicals in that area?
