Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Hey, nothing wrong with tweaking it how you like it. I saute onions, garlic and bacon sometimes and add it in. No cheese though? Sheesh! I guess we found the one guy who doesn't like cheese.

I couldn't do the loaf, put the ingredients in the freezer. I cleaned my cartridge filter for the first time on Sunday, and there were issues. All good now, but it is not that easy for the inexperienced. The biggest issue being, if it is near dusk, or getting dark outside, double check that your O-ring did not fall down from the lip into the filter body. 'cuz it don't work that way

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

I only clean my filter in the early morning. Can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours depending on how many trips to ACE Hardware are required. At least one is necessary.

Danny,

Your sacrifice is duly noted :salut:

So, whats everyone cooking for Sunday?????

It looks like we're just gonna stay home to watch the game, thinking about keeping it simple, I already have a bag of wings and sauce, gonna get some hot dogs for the kids and maybe some links for the wifey and I. Definitely going to Costco to get a 6 layer black bean dip they have, if you like such a dip and dont feel like making one, I highly recommend this dip!!!! Not sure what else, but will have tortilla chips and original Doritos, still trying to decide on if I should smoke some ribs.........

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Even though "our" team of choice isn't playing, it is really just an excuse to "party" and if we really look at it for what it's worth, it's the last pro football game for 7-8 months!!!!!!! LoL

Y'all wish you had smell-o-vision!

And last Sunday we cooked 4-1/2 lbs of bacon, it's almost gone. I think there are a couple of pieces left.

The Super Bowl is the one day I indulge and make the Papa John's driver bring me a pizza. With a good tip of course. Usually around halftime.

And as an American, you got to be proud when those fighter jets scream across the stadium. Here is hoping we get that again this year in my home town of Houston. Looking forward to it.

In person, they are a LOT louder, and frankly, more terrifying than you think.

You're right, I wish I had smell vision because that looks great!

I agree on the fighter jets, I've actually been in stadiums they flown over and it always puts me in awe! You're right, it does make you feel proud to be an American and of those servicemen and women.

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Looks great!!! And ditto on the short ribs!!!!

About a week ago I made a Mexican beef vegetable (carrots, cabbage, potatoes, celery) soup called "cocido", my gma used to make this when I was younger and I was totally craving this!!!!

Braised the short ribs:

Added some onion, garlic, beef broth & tomatoes:

And VOILA!!!!!!

My gma was half Mexican and Italian, so she would add some large elbow noodles and us kids would add Parmesan cheese and tapatio for some heat!!!! LoL

Super Simple Slow-Cooker Pulled Pork

SO the smoker is out of charcoal and I'm too lazy to go buy some. So I decided to do pulled pork....in my slow cooker. It's really super-easy -

2-1/2 lbs of pork tenderloin (trim off all silver-skin, aka, ligaments)
1-1/2 cup favorite BBQ Sauce (I like Mr. Stubbs Sweet & Smokey Mesquite)
1 cup of Root Beer Soda (any brand will do)
1 medium sweet onion, sliced into ribbons
Mr. Stubbs BBQ rub

I trim the tenderloins myself but you can buy pre-trimmed ones too. I season them with A LOT of Mr. Stubbs rub and then brown them in a cast-iron pan, just enough to sear the outside. I then add some onion to the pan to soften them. The onions go into the slow cooker first, then the pork (neatly arranged) followed by the root beer and the BBQ sauce. I then sprinkle another tablespoon or so of Mr. Stubbs rub into the slow cooker, put the lid on and set it to cook on LOW for 6-8 hours.

Here's are the loins (I cut them in half so they would fit better) cooking in the sauce -

8 hours later....shredded (I have bear claw shredders) -

Back into the juice with you!!

I made some Bisquick biscuits to go with them and some tri-color slaw -

YUM!

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Looks good!

I do the almost the exact same thing, except I have not tried w/ root beer.

I currently have some bone-in pork loin chops in the crockpot with a can of cream of mushroom and and about half an onion sliced up!!!! Gonna get home and cook some rice and veggies for some smothered pork chops!!!

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Yeah, the root beer trick is something I picked up a couple of years ago. It adds sugar sweetness and that sarsaparilla flavor that, for whatever reason, really works with pork. I know some people that use Coca-Cola instead of root beer.
